Discussed previously, the casting of Abigail Breslin provoked outrage and anger from those who felt that the director should have at least tried to consider finding a blind/deaf actor for the role of Helen Keller.

Political cartoonist August J. Pollak thinks that everyone is just being silly, because actors pretend to be different people all the time.

No, really.

Since he doesn't allow direct reposting, here's a link to the comic.

Here's an except from his blog post on the matter:

[h]ere we have people complaining that an actor was hired to... you know... act, instead of getting someone who can act less. The entire concept of acting is having people pretend to be other people. Unless someone thinks Breslin's performance is, I don't know, somehow going to insult the blind and deaf, I don't see what's pissing people off here.

Considering he's been an advocate against homophobic and racist humor and statements before I don't think he's being deliberately mean, just that he isn't seeing past his abled-privilege.

Okay. You.

I don't care that you think you're God's gift to RP. You're not. You don't treat people like that. If someone says they don't like accents that butcher the English language, and prefer to RP with people that can actually spell, the appropriate response is NOT to go whining to a mod that can't do anything about someone's opinion. The appropriate response is to say "Okay" and either leave them alone or fix what you're doing wrong if you really want to RP with them. Anything less is idiotic, bitchy, and not worth my time. Stop that.

AND YOU. (Edit: Directed at the person who shut out above person.)

Yes. You. What the fuck? Do you really think that you look like an adult by shutting someone out of RP? No, no you don't. You look 12. Stop that. You shouldn't be shocked that they left with that bitchy comment. You earned it.

You over there.

When someone tells you that they think your RP is sophomoric and resembles what you'd see on an average day in your average American high school's cafeteria, your response should not be "But he's okay with it OOC, so you should be too!" No. Things do not work in this manner. It doesn't matter if Person A approved the RP OOC. Person C doesn't have to. You dragged Person C in. You made Person C into the bad guy. Person C is pissed.  No one is the Opinion Police. Don't be an idiot. And so you know? Person A can approve it OOC, but Person A's character can run screaming for the hills, because Person A isn't the same as their character.. Please learn to separate the two before you ever attempt RP again.

YOU!

Who the hell do you think you are? You're not a mod. You're not wanted within 20 feet of the mods. You're not wanted within 80 feet of anything even remotely resembling organizing anything outside your own clique. Why do you feel the need to whine and complain and pretend you're one of the mods? Stop that. They're all onto your shit, they don't want it, and they can see your toxicity 10 miles off. Go. The. Fuck. Away. Find another community to ruin. You've already ruined the quality of the clique you're in. Good RP isn't finding ways to prop up your snowflake and make it look like the best damn thing ever. You rape the story, you come up with some exceedingly poor concepts... please. Leave. I don't know why you were allowed in to begin with. If I had any say in it, you wouldn't have been, nor would you remain at this point after all the FAIL you bring. Take your ball and leave, I'm begging you.

This ends my rant.

Look. I get that you really, really, really, really, really, REALLY, ZOMG FUCKING REALLY want to join my game. I do. You IM me the second I sign on and don't shut up about it until I flat out tell you that I can't review your app until the other mods sign on and you're going to have to wait. And even then you still poke me every once in a while to check the status. But let's face it. This is #3 that we rejected.

First rejection: you admitted that you didn't read any of the info pages and rules, you were overexcited, and zomg, there's just so much of it to read! And omg WAH WAH WAH I'M SUCH AN IDIOT PLEASE DON'T HOLD THIS AGAINST ME IT'S JUST SO HARD.

Second rejection: no you definitely read it this time, promise! some of it. you don't remember what. but you definitely read. skimmed the things you weren't sure were important for sure. there's just so much of it! WAAAAAAH I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED TWICE, I FEEL SO STUPID.

Third rejection: don't try again. No, really. You're not reading shit, and you're not absorbing anything. The FIRST TIME you were rejected, I gave you four links: the outline (less than a page in MS Word), the world info (two pages in MS word), the rules (less than a page in MS word), and the class rules for the class you are bound and determined to play (a page in MS word). That is ALL you need to know to get approved. All you need to do is submit an application that doesn't directly contradict everything in those pages. So stop whining at me. IMing me with a paragraph of caps about how stupid this game is making you feel is not going to change my mind. In fact, it confirms in my head that this is not the game for you.

Above all else, IMing me and telling me that we require too much reading and it's all just too hard and I should consider 'dumbing everything down' isn't gonna do it either. We've been running a year with a large group of players, and over a hundred characters that had no problem with it whatsoever. This is not rocket science. It's just not the game for you.

While I wasn't able to get any video due to my camera mucking up on me, I want to report that the Racebending message was well received at Nekocon this weekend. We passed out flyers and the bookmarks from the website and also directed several people to the site through the weekend and everyone we spoke to was eager to get more information.

With some people (the Avatar cosplayers), we went head in with the subject, but with others we found our way there by other means which makes me really pleased that we have branched out into other films on the site. The King of Fighters, Chun Li and The Weapon were flicks that were able to illustrate the point to some older con goers and non Avatar fans to get active in the protest. There were a ton of people who were outraged at the casting of Kyo Kusanagi as a white man and those who were more into web comics were pissed off about the white washing of Tommy Zhao.

When it came to Avatar fans, many who weren't following the movie development that much, many were turned off not only by the casting (many stated they had expected a white Aang, but were outraged about Sokka and Katara), but were upset by the visual and character direction that M Night was going with. A more political, serious film is something that very much seems to be turning people off the to the movie (big shock there).

Over all, among con going fans, there is a very weary feeling about the movie. There were some who still said they would wait until the film got closer to release to make a decision, but there is obviously not the excitement there that Harry Potter, Hellboy, Twilight or Iron Man fans have towards their franchises. They see the changes that are being made and they don't see the series that they love which is bad news for a movie studio, but good news for the rest of us.

Katsucon is coming up in February so I'll be hitting harder there.

Okay, so I know having RP as an interest on my Gaia profile is asking for trouble, but this was just too much.

Here's the abridged gist of what went down:

Girl: Hai ther!  Wanna join my Twilight RP?!  Your profile says you like RP!

Me: I do like RP.  But I really do not like Twilight, so I decline.  I hope you find some good players though.

Girl: How can you not like Twilight?  Are you actually a boy?!  You aren't supposed to lie about your sex on Gaia you know!  I'm reporting you, its against the contract!

Me: I don't think they'll do anything based on me being a girl who isn't into Twilight.

Girl: Well you must be a boy!  Any real girl is totally into hot vamps.

This is about where I point out that on my profile it states I hate Twilight, and that they aren't actually vampires IMO. Things went down hill fast from there, and it degenerated into her typing in all caps, bold, red, large font that I was a fucking hoe, that only hoes like real boys (seriously WTF?) and Edward was the only guy for her, good luck with my diseases. etc. etc.

All because I told her I had a real guy in my life, a fiance nonetheless, and I was quite satisfied by him.

Seriously, why?  How do I attract all the Twilight FANATICS on Gaia?

Edited for typos

I'm interested in her having possibly been a slave when she first came to America, or (and this is just an idea) having been bought by an abolitionist-type in the South.

I didn't know 'abolitionist-types' were the ones buying slaves. Also, good job trying to gank a plot that's already been done once in game. You just keep trying to attach yourself to that one character and jump your ass on the angst wagon.

I'm also confused as to why Bast is childishly calling people stupid and posting pictures of Edward Cullen...

/annoyed and random post is annoyed and random.

Two applications submitted to an AU rp community that I’m at.

I warn you, this is not for sensitive eyes.

You kiddies are old enough to know.. Read at your own risk.

And, I love this community!

Warning: Not for the weak of stomach and cut for language I'm sure )

It's my playground. I can deny your application for any reason I want.

Seriously. Any reason I want. I could suddenly decide that every person apply to my game needs to intuitively know that their font should be bright pink and sparkle and then deny everyone who doesn't do that. I would be a pretty sad little cookie and end up in the Special Corner of the internet playing with myself, but that's a completely different issue. The point still stands that there's no RP Police going to swoop down from the ether to fine me for breaking the RP Law. Because there is no law. There's 'what works,' and 'what sends your game into a tail-spin and is thus generally avoided.'

So please, for the love of god, stop sending me IMs, PMs, e-mails, smoke signals, carrier pigeons, and whatever else I haven't banned you from yet telling me that I can't do something. I can. Stop telling me I'm not 'allowed' to deny you for the reasons I've outlined. If I'm shooting myself in the foot by not letting you in the game, then that's a natural consequence I'm willing to accept. Because all other drama aside, your particular brand of bitching is hands-down my least favorite ever.

You know after you try and dictate chars to others, you do not get to whine to your friends after they find a way to do what you want, and you don't like it.

More detail after the cut... )

This may be just me but…

I just needed to rant. It hurts my head that all of this is one player. Sorry for the letter format.

Darling Player,

For the love of god and country.

If you don’t have the books don’t try to make a character based on your concept that “Hunters have dangerous jobs”. Especially when you’ve so far made three mortals and had to have your hand held through every step of the process EVERY! TIME! By more than one ST!

Yes, darling, when you have to have three STs help you, over time, to make one mortal character because you “can’t do the math” (direct quote) you might want to give up and go back to your free-form stuff where everyone put up with your D.I.D. BS.

In regards to your other character idea. No, if Garou mommy left behind something in your possession that just screamed to other Garou “Hay, look, KINFOLK!” you are not going to be an unaware Kinfolk. No, nope, no way. The shiny sparkly sue-mister thing you want her to have would have had her detected before she even turned 18…hell even before she turned the age of double digits.

Oh and one more thing, dearest. If you ask one more ST to torture and rape your characters and I hear about it. I am going to lay down the fucking ban hammer on your head. Yes, rape happens IRL and in the WoD, but begging for it? Pestering STs to do it to your Cs? Might I suggest you find a good doctor and get an evaluation?

It is people like you that make me want to find a way to FTP strangulation, because getting in my car to drive to you and hunt you down is far too much effort for your level of stupid.

Edited to fix some kind of HTML screw up.

There is nothing wrong with two characters taking several months to develop into a loving couple. In fact, it can be really fun to play out that interaction. Don't skip over everything so you can get to the lovey-dovey stuff right away. The journey is half the fun.

And for the love of god, when you're working on building a relationship like that, don't suddenly jump ship suddenly when you find someone who wants to go from acquaintances to lovers in three days. That's a really dick move, and you're going to be leaving the player of the other love interest wondering what the hell happened.

Some of us DO want to play romance, you know. It's just really difficult to do so when everyone else wants instant gratification.

So, about a year ago, a friend and I joined a game that was trying to revive itself. We enjoyed the concept, even if several of the other characters made us kind of scratch our heads — but that's a rant all to itself.
We go back and forth for a few months mostly without incident, and the board slowly dies around us. Not really wanting to give up on the SL we'd created, my friend and I continue to RP with one another unabated even when everyone else had left.

I go to log in to make a post for him today and find that my account's been wiped.
And his.
And everyone else's, along with every single post made to the board since it opened last year. Not archived, like they usually do with old threads, deleted. The only accounts still active are the admin's — who, before the wipe, hadn't logged in in about eight months? and two mods she was often known to smut with.

If she wanted to wipe the board and try again, fine, I just wish there'd been some warning so I could make my own copies of threads I'd particularly liked / would have liked to reference for continuity. Nrrrgh.

Please. I don't think that, the night after being brutally raped, a teenaged girl would find comfort in a threesome.

Even if it is her best friends being 'supportive' and proving that they still they love her as a friend.

Especially not if they're all genderswapped versions of guys who think that watching a boxing match is a way to bond. I don't know how you go from guys hanging out with boxing to girls hanging out with bad porn, but...

1- No, my priest guy, brother Markus, is not a pedophile. Can we stop with that joke already? It was funny the first time, the accusations are getting a little old now...

2- Yes, I'm a girl who plays guys most of the time. Yes, I've played ONE dude who passed himself off as a girl. One, in around ten years of tabletop gaming. No, ALL my characters are NOT sexual deviants. The crossdresser was actually completely straight, he even got married at the end of the game! Can we, again, stop with the jokes already? My own sexual orientation has nothing to do with who my characters lust for. I am not my character.

3- On that subject, I'd appreciate if you found another expression for "this is bad" than "gayyyy". What are we, twelve? Real life homosexual here, I know you don't mean anything bad by it on purpose, but it does get on my nerves. Besides, some people might be less tolerant than me by the name-calling, and you might end up hurting someone for real. Be more careful.

I actually like (most of!) these guys a lot, it's just minor annoyances. I know they're teasing me, but there are other subjects to tease me about than this one.

06 November 2009 @ 11:54 pm
We get that you can't let anything go, but harassing players on a board you stormed away from is only showing how immature you are and driving players away from your new board. They're comparing notes and figuring out you're complaining about them to the each other. How about you think of other people for a change? It would totally surprise everyone if you acted like a grownup and got yourself a different attitude. Play and let play.

Trolling a board you left so you can complain to the people still on it about what they're doing is sad. Play your sparkly slut alteregos with your little group of sex starved associates and create all the self absorbed plots you want to your heart's content. Nobody you left behind cares that you've moved on. Why do you still care about what they do?
